HIGH URIC ACID & DISEASES CAUSED BY URIC ACID
URIC ACID:
Uric
Acid is a waste product of metabolism of Purines in the blood. Uric Acid is
cleared from blood by kidney & discharged in Urine. Urine yellow
colour is because of uric acid. Some of it is also released in Stool.
NORMAL VALUE OF URIC
ACID IN BLOOD:
In Males normal value of Uric acid in blood is 3.5 - 6.8
mg/dL, or 208 - 428 µmol/L.
In Females normal value of
Uric acid in blood is 2.6 - 6.0 mg/dL, or 155 - 357 µmol/L
HYPERURICEMIA:
High
uric acid in the Blood and ultimately in the body is called Hyperuricemia.
Hyperuricemia occurs when the production of uric acid is more than the body can
excrete. It has a lot of adverse effects on the body. Here are the list of
effect hyperuricemia has on different parts of body.
· GOUT:
High
levels of uric acid can lead to the formation of urate crystals in the joints,
which can cause inflammation and pain. This can lead to a condition called
gout, which is characterized by sudden and severe attacks of joint pain,
usually starts in the Big Toe, but can also affect other joints such as
the ankle, knee, and wrist. The affected Joint is Swollen, Red, Painful
and Stiff. It is also associated with Joint Soreness, Hot Joint,
and Shiny Skin over the joint.

· KIDNEYS:
When
uric acid levels in the body are too high, the kidneys may not be able to
excrete all of it. This can lead to the formation of Kidney Stones, which
can cause severe pain and other symptoms. Uric acid Crystal is one of the major
types of stone present in kidney. Over time, high levels of uric acid can also
lead to chronic kidney disease and kidney damage. Kidney stones also cause Severe
Pain, Nausea, Vomiting. Frequent Urination and Blood in Urine.
· CARDIOVASCULAR
SYSTEM:
Some
research has suggested that high uric acid levels may be a risk factor for
cardiovascular disease. This may be due to the fact that uric acid can
contribute to inflammation in the body and damage to blood vessels. High uric
acid levels have been associated with an increased risk of Heart Attack,
Stroke, and High Blood Pressure.
· METABOLIC
DISEASES:
High
uric acid levels have been linked to metabolic syndrome, a group of conditions
that increase the risk of Heart Disease and Diabetes (Type 2).
This may be because uric acid can contribute to insulin resistance, a condition
in which the body is less able to respond to insulin and regulate blood sugar
levels.
· BRAIN:
Some
studies have suggested that high uric acid levels may be associated with an
increased risk of Cognitive Decline and Dementia in older adults.
Uric acid may contribute to oxidative stress and inflammation in the brain,
which can lead to damage and cognitive impairment.

· OTHER
EFFECTS:
If
high level of uric acid is left untreated for long time it can cause Bone
Damage, Body Tissue Damage and Permanent Joint disability. it can
also cause Backbone Problems.
